Overview
ShipStation API MCP Server is published under the ShipStation GitHub organization (shipstation/mcp-shipstation-api). It is an MCP server for ShipStation API v2 so assistants like Claude Desktop can create and manage shipments, labels, rates, carriers, inventory, warehouses, batches, and manifests through natural-language tool calls.
Run it with Node directly, Docker, or Docker Compose. Authentication is a ShipStation API key via SHIPSTATION_API_KEY (optional SHIPSTATION_API_URL override).
Key Features
- Shipments: Create, list, get, cancel shipments and retrieve rates.
- Labels: Create, list, get, void labels and track packages.
- Rates & carriers: Estimate shipping rates; list carriers, services, and package types.
- Inventory & warehouses: Read stock levels, update inventory, list warehouses.
- Batches & manifests: Bulk label batching and end-of-day manifest workflows.
- Deploy flexibility: Local Node, Docker
run, or Compose-based MCP configs documented in the README.
How to Use
- Install an MCP-compatible host (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.).
- Clone or install the server from https://github.com/shipstation/mcp-shipstation-api and follow the README for build /
npx/ Docker commands. - Create API credentials for the underlying platform and put them in the MCP
envblock — never commit secrets. - Register the server in your client MCP config (Claude Desktop
claude_desktop_config.jsonor Cursormcp.json), then restart the client. - Start with read-only prompts; enable write tools only after you understand scopes and confirmation settings.
Pricing
The MCP repository is open/source-style tooling from ShipStation's org; running it is free. ShipStation product pricing (labels, plan tiers) still applies to the underlying account.
| Plan | Billing | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| mcp-shipstation-api | — | Free to self-host | API key required |
| ShipStation account | ShipStation plans / labels | Per ShipStation | Carrier label costs extra |
Best For
Multi-channel sellers and ops teams who already ship with ShipStation and want Claude/Cursor to quote rates, void labels, or check warehouse inventory without opening the ShipStation UI for every task.
